Introduction

This project re-brands the company Kolding Spildevand to the much more dynamic Kolding Ecosystems. The re-brand works as sub-brand of Kolding Municipality’s brand “We design life”. It will take Kolding Ecosystem from being a passive provider to visible active asset for the city.
The brand will focus on what the company produces instead of what it works with. It will let people experience what Kolding Ecosystems produce through touch points in their everyday life and create a path to their headquarters. At the headquarters there is a visualization of how the company works, which makes sure that the citizen is able to go and talk to the company to get a better understanding of what they do and how they operate.

What is Kolding spildevand

Kolding Waste Water main objective is to cleaning the waste water that they collect through extensive underground sewer system. Are they are able to clean the water up to 98% before releasing it back into the ocean, With their sewer system and cleaning they are able keep the environment sustainable and keeping the citizens healthy. But the company itself has started to use the waste as a resource, creating products like fertilizers and energy both heat and electricity.
But they are also responsible to transport rainwater from the city, and have built an separate sewer system that transport the water from the city to the ocean, by passing the waste water treatment plant.

The company itself feels that they not get their message across to the user on how they should use their system as they have notice that the users are flushing down objects and chemicals that should not be disposed in that manner as it hurts their cleaning process and also is unhealthy for the environment. This leads to that it cost them money as it puts a strain on the system.
Which lead to that the company itself are not acting in any way to promote them self or how their users should use their system, which show through that they only see two touch point where they are talking to their users, when they send them their bill, and when they call to complain. There is one place where they are showing of how their system works, and that’s when schools come to visit the waste water plants, but they do not set it up themselves, the school calls and ask if they can bring a class.

Kolding Ecosystem

New vision, New Look

The company will still do the same what they are doing before, cleaning waste and producing fertilizer and energy. But they will take control over how the will communicate with their users. The company will communicate who they are and what they produce together with their users, through 3 different touch points. The first touch point will let the user experience their product. Touch point 2 will guide the user from touch point 1 to touch point 3. At touch point 3 will be an interactive show where the user can see what is good and bad their system, but is designed in a way that if people will be able to go inn and get speak to the company.

The Name

The new name of the company comes from the fact that they utilize different ecosystems in cleaning the water and creating product from the waste while making sure that the ecosystem that they are a part of (both man made (cities in their area) as well as nature) are kept sustainable.

The Color

A strong purple color will be the new color for the company to create an association towards what they do and what they produce. The color itself is chosen for following reason: Bringing it out of corporate feeling which the blue gives of and the color green is often used and already associate towards Eco energy but also it will give a grate contrast towards Kolding Green.

Touch point 1

About
At touch point 1, there is the first introduction to the company for the user. The user will experience what Kolding Ecosystems does, and will let them know that the user and the company are doing this together.

Heated Seat
The heated seat is placed in a bus stop where the user will feel the heat on a cold winter day. The first thing the user will see beside the strong purple, is the logo of the company, and then the slogan which would be “This heated seat is powered by you“.

Artificial Sunlight:
The artificial sunlight would placed around tables in the city. First thing, besides the purple color, people would see the logo, and when they would come closer would see the byline “this artificial sunlight is heated by you“.

Non-frozen field:
The non-frozen field would placed in playing-fields like football fields. First thing, besides the purple color, people would see the logo, and when they would come closer would see the byline “this non-frozen field is heated by you“.

Touch Point 2

Around the touch points 1 on the manholes there will be guide towards Kolding Hus. Then from there they will people would be guided from area to area through the manholes until they arrive towards Kolding Ecosystem headquarters.

Touch Point 3

At touch point 3 is a interactive exhibition on how there are two systems and will show their user what is good for the system and what is bad for the system. But it will be able for their user to go in and ask more around the system to create a personal relationship with the company.

Touch Point 3

InteractiveShow

Touch Point 3

Activation
Before the user steps over the manhole to activate the show, en it will look like a river. The water on the right hand side represent the rainwater system and the water on the left represent the water treatment system.

Actevating
When the user steps on the manhole in the water, three things appears:
Top is light which represents the energy.
Middle is plants, which represent fertilizer
Bottom is green spots represent the bacteria that cleans the water.

Input from the user
The user has influence of what goes in the system, when the users stand on:
The blue bricks: It will release what is good for the system like rainwater and waste.
The red bricks: it will release what is bad for the system like plastic, chemicals etc.

When good things go through
When the waste goes through each element of the system, then it will grow, and the system is healthy, it shows in visual way how the system responds to the waste.

When bad things go through
When things go through that is bad for the system, then all of the elements will reduce and the system will get less effective, so it won’t be able to clean the water properly.

Rainwater system
On the rain water, people will see it will go through without any treatment, which means that the rainwater is good, but all the chemicals just go straight to the ocean.
