THE QUIET TEXTILE

Can textiles affect perception of sound in a room?

THE QUIET TEXTILE
Noise in open office environments, in restaurants or in day-care centres affects us tremendously, although we hardly realise it. Noise has inspired textile designer Jessica Belanger to work with textures on a traditional arm loom with the purpose of developing textiles that impact sound and space. Based on nature, she has developed a sensuous textile with a weaving technique that is based on the structure of the herb cress. The acoustic textile is based on two fundamental principles, absorption and diffusion of sound.
