Let’s be smart about it. Let’s use smart textiles to improve quality of life for COPD patients

A smarter life with COPD
Patients who are hospitalised with COPD have their blood oxygen levels measured using a so-called pulse oximetry. This is attached to the finger tip with a clip, which can be quite irritating. Using smart textiles, Matilde Nyeland has designed an alternative unit that patients can wear on their wrist. The unit is called SmartO2, and because it is so comfortable to wear, it is possible for COPD patients to automate their oxygen supply on a daily basis at home. The project is a step towards increased quality of life and fewer hospitalisations.

Et smartere liv med KOL
Borgere, som er indlagt med KOL, får i dag målt mætningen af ilt i blodet med et såkaldt pulsoximeter, der sidder som en – ofte generende – klemme yderste på fingeren. Det er baggrunden for, at Matilde Nyeland har udviklet den håndledsbårne enhed SmartO2,, som er designet med smart tekstil. SmartO2 sikrer fysisk komfort og gør det derfor muligt at automatisere ilttilførsel på daglig basis for KOL-borgere i hjemmet. Projektet er et skridt på vejen mod øget livskvalitet og færre hospitalsindlæggelser.
