Why should I choose Fashion Design?

The Fashion Design programme will provide you with a strong foundation for creating sustainable clothing that reflects contemporary issues and help you find solutions to future challenges.

The Fashion Design programme at Design School Kolding is for a person like you, who are fascinated by clothing – irrespective of whether you are interested in aesthetics, function, sustainablity or in the way clothes reflect an individual’s identity as well as contemporary society.

What will I learn?

The Fashion Design programme will teach you the fundamental techniques and methods that a modern-day designer needs.

You will work with form giving through draping and pattern development and elements such as composition, colours and materiel that accentuate your design. You will create prototypes, both manually and digitally, that will provide you with insight into choice of materials, solutions, challenges and proportions. You will learn the software programme CLO3D, through which you will create your design digitally.

You will base your collections on sustainability and trend collection, and you will learn to support your intuition and capture contemporary trends. You will be taught how to create a concept based on design methods and analyses, which will hone your design process as well as the finished product.

The ability to draw is the designer's way of communicating both with herself and with the production team, and hence, throughout your studies, you will receive drawing instruction both on paper and digitally, working with the programmes Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

What is the best way to learn?

In the course of the Fashion Design programme you will work individually and in groups; you will have the opportunity to work across disciplines but also immerse yourself in your particular area of study.

The programme is divided into periods of 3-12 weeks, where you will learn different aspects in your topic. Both lectures and regular instruction will be offered, but for the most part, there is 1:1 guidance during which you can develop your talent and your skills. Instruction will be provide by our permanent faculty as well as external teachers who hail from industry and provide invaluable insight from practice.

During the 4th semester we go on a study trip abroad to learn about production and about the most important competencies a designer needs.

The programme will conclude with a Bachelor project in collaboration with a company.

What job can I get?

Your specific interests and skills open up many job opportunities in the clothing industry.

You can work with fashion design, functional clothing, sustainability, new business systems, trend and styling.

If you want to proceed with an in-depth study of your subject, your degree qualifies you to enroll in a two-year MA programme, where you will have the opportunity to specialise.
