Chris Petter Spilde

NAME: Chris Petter Spilde AGE: Born 16 July 1985

NATIONALITY: Norwegian

OCCUPATION: In social contexts I introduce myself as unemployed. I work to find out where I fit in, this is my occupation: me. It might sound pretentious and possibly a little sad but I don’t know how else to describe it. Right now I’m no one. I don’t think of myself as a graphic designer, nor as an illustrator, nor as a photographer, nor as a filmmaker, nor as a concept developer. But I’m quite good at pretending if that’s what people want.

RELATION TO DESIGN SCHOOL KOLDING: I graduated from Design School Kolding and I liked it there. I have a good relationship with the school; it’s a nice place to be.

What inspires me? Everything, I think.

What am I professionally interested in at the moment? Linguistic formalities like ’thank you, ’I’m sorry’, ’Hi, how are you?’ I’m not sure but I think I want to visualise the content that’s hiding inside these linguistic ornaments because I feel we tend to overlook it. Unfortunately, it’s likely not go anywhere but right now I’m working on a writing project called ‘Thank you (to)’. Instead of placing the credits at the back of the book, I want to make the credits the content of the book. I want to thank everyone from Bas Jan Ader, Steve McManaman, mom, my brothers, my friends, former teachers, the colour white, the bus driver on route 50E that goes from Sandsli to Bergen city centre.

My dream assignment. Why? I guess an assignment which allows me to be in life without living it. By that I mean that it would be fantastic if I could plan my workday in a way that I wouldn’t have to depend on others. Or rather, I don’t want to depend on having to be someone during my workday. In all honesty: an assignment where I feel that I don’t have to be this fun, exciting, hearty guy. An assignment that allows me to be boring and anti-social without burning any bridges. I prefer to be a cool guy after work and then I don’t want to talk about work; I want to talk about hip hop, breafdance, rap, graffiti and skiboarding. Crazy legs, Beastie Boys, Revok and Pappalardo.

Why did I choose Design School Kolding? I did a semester at the Scandinavian Design College because I wanted to get away from Norway. They recommended that I apply to Design School Kolding. I did and I got in. Very accidental. The only thing I knew was that I didn’t want to go to school in Norway and that I wanted to study … so I did: Visual Communication at Design School Kolding.

What does Danish Design represent to me? Network.
