Saving Moluccan stories
Background
When the Maluku Islands attempted to break away from the colonial power of Indonesia in 1950, many Moluccans were sent to the Netherlands with the expectation of a temporary stay and the promise of a free state.
Saving Moluccan stories
None of these expectations were fulfilled. Instead, they were isolated in Dutch camps. Now, over 70 years later, the 70,000 Moluccans still living in the Netherlands risk losing their oral history. In response, designers have created a magazine featuring stories that carve a niche within the tradition of minority archives, giving voice to minorities.
