The project was in collaboration with Provas waste management and the residents in a social housing area in the community of Haderslev.

The main goal of the project was to raise awareness about recycling the household waste in this particular housing area.

We conducted a series of activities with the residents and thereby helped us clarify how to improve their recycling habits.

The activities led us to a very important realization that became the leading point of our project. It turned out that children were especially committed to recycling and were very engaged in our recycling activities.

The children's fondness for recycling also made their parents show more interest in recycling.

We, therefore, decided that children between 5-8 years old became the focus group of our project.

This led us to create a multifunctional social space where education and play for children would become integrated.

The space has a main focus on plastic recycling and features a workspace where you will be able to bring plastic containers and turn them into flower pots.

To help create awareness of the social space we designed a ‘get started’ pack. The pack includes a bag made out of recycled plastic to collect plastic containers, an illustrated map that shows where to find the social space, and a guide on how to turn the plastic containers into flower pots.

This is a more fun way to create a focus on recycling and enhance the residents' relationship with the neighborhood and their community.
