Kindwashing Kills

HVAD?

WHAT? A showdown with the inertia of Danish design manifested through a verbal and visual critique of the Danish graphic design industry.

HOW? The two designers, Jasmin Kharamani Madsen and Louis Hørsted Kocmick, believe that the development of the graphic design landscape in Denmark has stagnated. Through visual experiments and linguistic critique, the designers challenge some of the entrenched design principles that characterise Danish graphic design today. The critique is concretised through a publication and a visual universe. The purpose of Kindwashing Kills is to inspire a movement of designers who are actively questioning the status quo of the graphic industry.

WHY? The design duo's studies show that an absence of critical self-reflection and tendencies towards self-reinforcing cultural narratives help cause a delay in the development of Danish graphic design aesthetics steering it in a more homogeneous direction. The country's brands, campaigns and logos are all merging; Scandinavian minimalism has become common property and there is no longer room for versatility, surprises and non-conforming attitudes – few dalydiare to venture outside the box.
