15 minutes observation

here is no doubt that patience will be tested these weeks. Behind stacks of A3 paper, all 64 first-year students sit with peeled bananas, animal heads and pictures of the foam-cloaked sea cliffs.  We will achieve organic designs in composition they say. But! It will be 2D. No spatial perception!  The squeaking from felt pens carries methodically through the room and blends with the crunching backs and sighs from those who have neglected their morning coffee. The sound booms back and forth against the metal walls and the rain falls outside. It is November, and the days have diminished, to say the least… Groaning, I lift my neck to meet Sara’s equally pale blue eyes across from me. – No, you know what?  I am not going to lie and say that composition is a fun topic.  But I would definitely be lying if I said that it wasn’t useful. Many maybe believe that it is passing the entrance exam which is the hardest part here at Kolding Design School. But it’s on the first day of school that the most difficult part begins. And that difficulty will settle in, because I know that in three years, I will be pretty damn happy for this November day.
