The new ecological class
The lecture will take place on 20 February at 2-3 p.m. at Design School Kolding.
The climate crisis is the most important political issue of our time. Still, green political parties are finding it difficult to spread their wings. In the book 'Note on the new ecological class', the renowned French thinker Bruno Latour and the Danish sociologist Nikolaj Schultz ask the question: How can ecology define our political agenda in the same way that liberalism, socialism and neoliberalism have done throughout history?
In 76 short discussion points, they present their answers. The book has caused great debate in France and the authors have created front pages in the French newspapers, e.g. Le Monde and Libération, and it was in the top 10 on all bestseller lists when it was published in France at the beginning of 2022. In Germany it has also topped the bestseller list, and when the book was published in Danish in the autumn of 2022, it caused justifiable attention in the Danish media.
Monday 20 February at 2-3 p.m. Design School Kolding invites you to a public lecture with Nikolaj Schultz, who, based on the book, talks about the need to create a new ecological class.
- If the ecological movement is to achieve ideological consistency and autonomy, it must offer a political narrative that acknowledges, embraces, and effectively represents its project in terms of social conflict. But political ecology must accept that it leads to division," argues Nikolaj Schultz.
In the book, the authors call for a new ecological class, united by collective interests in fighting the logic of production and protecting our planet's habitable conditions, and asks: How can a proud and self-aware ecological class emerge and act effectively to shape our collective future?
The lecture is held as part of the celebration of the Danish Design Center West Denmark moving into the Design School Kolding with the aim of working together to strengthen and spread the use of design in business.
