Background
Playful protest: designing for teenage civic expression

Mohawkit

This project explores how play can support civic expression among teenagers, particularly in the context of protest. Developed in collaboration with UNICEF Denmark, the open-source kit invites 8th-grade students to discuss contemporary forms of protest and design wearable mohawks that communicate messages important to them. Through collective making and experimentation, the project investigates how playful approaches can foster young people’s voices. The resulting mohawks can be assembled into collective visual statements or worn in public demonstrations.
