Covers for Pigesind / Kvindesind
BA Course: ‘Experimental book cover(s) – The book as a three-dimensional object’ – Covers for Pigesind / Kvindesind
Communication Design, Bachelor 1st Year

Background
A graphic designer must master the craft of typography and visual communication – and be able to judge when a strong personal expression is called for, and when the context demands that the designer’s own style steps into the background. A book cover is a piece of communication design that conveys the mood, content, and message of the book. But a book is also a three-dimensional object that invites experimentation with materials, shape, texture, and interaction to influence the reading experience.
Hannah Bønning Kristensen has created a reversible cover for Tove Ditlevsen’s poetry collections Pigesind and Kvindesind. The book’s spine is hand-stitched, and the two semi-circular copper elements on each side have been respectively polished and patinated using vinegar, salt, and egg.
