A safe first impression – textiles in the hospital environment’

BA course: ‘Textiles for Interiors’ – ‘A safe first impression – textiles in the hospital environment’ Textile Design – Bachelor, 2nd Year
Background

One possible career path for a textile designer is creating textiles for spatial contexts – such as upholstery, carpets, curtains or decorative panels. Textiles used in interiors serve both functional and aesthetic purposes and have a powerful influence on how a space is experienced and how its users feel. This course introduces students to the concept of atmosphere and the use of architectural models as tools for both experimentation and communication.

Liva Bandmann has developed a woven design proposal intended to create a calming first impression in an examination room by concealing medical equipment above the hospital bed. The motif strikes a balance between abstraction and figuration, while the composition and colour scheme are tailored to the room's environment.
