Set a sun

Artistic research embraces the sensory and emotional dimensions of knowledge creation, generating new insights through both written work and artistic expression. This PhD project is rooted in the LAB for Social Design, where researchers and students explore socially sustainable futures through democratic and material-based design processes that support wellbeing and inclusive ways of living.
Maria Kirk Mikkelsen has created ’Set a Sun’ as part of the knowledge production within her PhD project ’Colour Poetics – Explorations into an experimental and material-based colour design practice’. The project examines how materials, form, light, and both conceptual and practical frameworks shape the designer’s work with colour, with attention to how colour and atmosphere influence sensory experience.
The installation is both dynamic and interactive: new atmospheres and optical colour blends emerge as people recompose the textiles in new ways, inviting moments of presence, calm, and connection with one’s surroundings.
Collaborations:
The PhD project is funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark. Supervisors are Claus Peder Pedersen from Aarhus School of Architecture and Philosopher Carsten Friberg.
The textile installation ’Set a Sun’ was realised in collaboration with Kvadrat and Fischer Gardiner A/S, with support from the Augustinus Foundation.
