Kolding School of Design receives royal donation
At a reception at Amalienborg, Her Majesty received a donation of DKK 650,000 from the design company Georg Jensen to Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik's Foundation.
On the same occasion, on behalf of the foundation's board, the Queen passed on the donation to the Kolding School of Design, which will use the amount to create scholarships for young, promising students specialising in jewellery design as well as other types of body-worn design.
Her Majesty handed over the donation to Kolding School of Design's Head of Education Eva Kappel, and Rector Lene Tanggaard:
- The donation is of great value to us. It gives us a unique opportunity to support our talented students who work in the jewellery and accessory field and who want to improve their skills through studies abroad – professionally as well as personally, says a very honored Lene Tanggaard.
As the only educational institution in Denmark, Kolding School of Design offers an advanced level accessory design programme. The donation means that the design school's talented students can go abroad to experiment with other forms of expression and immerse themselves in new craft approaches and production techniques, thus helping to continue developing the strong Danish tradition of jewellery and accessory design.
Georg Jensen's anniversary jewellery was launched in connection with the Queen's 50th anniversary. The piece was the result of a national design competition, where the task was to design a piece of jewellery as a tribute to the Majesty. Part of the profit from the sale of the anniversary jewellery was donated to Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik's Foundation.
The donation presentation took place on Tuesday 8 November. Present at the handover at Amalienborg were CEO of Georg Jensen Mehul Tank, creative director of Georg Jensen Ragnar Hjartarson, rector of Kolding School of Design Lene Tanggaard, and head of education at Kolding School of Design Eva Kappel.
