Student project
Tradition in a modern form
Background
A dinning table – a meeting of traditions and modern industry
Tradition in a modern form
The project explores how craftsmanship and furniture traditions can be carried forward in modern production, where the focus is often on optimisation and efficiency. The result is a dining table that demonstrates historical construction techniques. It also explores James Trilling’s argument that ornament has not disappeared but instead persists in new forms. In the modern world, ornament is increasingly integrated into design through elements such as form, the natural character of materials and texture, rather than existing solely as applied decoration.
