Designing the future at Formland

From 25 to 27 January, Kolding School of Design took part in Formland – one of the largest trade fairs in the Nordic region for interiors, design and lifestyle. The school’s stand became an open, vibrant meeting place between design education and industry.

"At Kolding School of Design, we are interested in exploring alternatives to the status quo. We introduce an alternative in order to investigate how it is, for example, expressed, interpreted, generates dialogue, opens up other pathways, and potentially creates new practices and relations. Artefacts can be a way of examining this and of challenging both practice and theoretical positions and understandings," says Sune Gudiksen, Head of the PhD School at Kolding School of Design.

When research takes shape: Artefact-based PhD projects

More and more PhD projects at Kolding School of Design and Aarhus School of Architecture are being developed through artefacts, installations and prototypes – opening up new, complementary ways of generating and sharing knowledge.

"We are facing a future that does not only call for smart solutions, but very much also for responsible participation in a world that is complex, unresolved and deeply relational," says Sofie Kinch, who has just been appointed associate professor at Kolding School of Design.

International experts and Italian luxury brands strengthen collaboration with Kolding School of Design

Kolding School of Design recently welcomed Italian fashion and costume designer Silvano Arnoldo and American theater director and researcher Brad Carlton Sisk. Together with the school’s third-year bachelor students in accessory, fashion, and textile design, they explored how historical narratives and materials can inspire modern design.

Rikke Gjerluf Stentebjerg Christensen studies Accessory Design at Kolding School of Design. At “The Living Trace” in London, she exhibited three conceptual jewellery pieces with support from Queen Margrethe’s Jubilee Grant.
