LEGO takes physical play into the technological future

With a new intelligent brick that can sense movement and respond with light and sound, LEGO aims to create a new kind of play experience where technology supports – rather than replaces – play. According to Helle Marie Skovbjerg, Professor and Play Researcher at Kolding School of Design, the new brick shows precisely how the play of the future can emerge through a balanced interaction between the physical, the digital and a conscious design responsibility.

International experts and Italian luxury brands strengthen collaboration with Kolding School of Design

Kolding School of Design recently welcomed Italian fashion and costume designer Silvano Arnoldo and American theater director and researcher Brad Carlton Sisk. Together with the school’s third-year bachelor students in accessory, fashion, and textile design, they explored how historical narratives and materials can inspire modern design.

Rikke Gjerluf Stentebjerg Christensen studies Accessory Design at Kolding School of Design. At “The Living Trace” in London, she exhibited three conceptual jewellery pieces with support from Queen Margrethe’s Jubilee Grant.

Designing as a universal act of being

With an extended collaboration and new grant from the Bevica Foundation, Kolding School of Design is strengthening its focus on Universal Design. As part of the first round of collaboration, our first Visiting Professor in Universal Design, Yanki Lee, is launching a new publication to conclude her professorship (2021-2025).

Kolding School of Design and the Bevica Foundation strengthen their collaboration and allocate a total of DKK 12 million for research and teaching in universal design

Kolding School of Design and the Bevica Foundation are expanding their partnership with a new grant totalling DKK 12 million, of which DKK 5 million consists of the school’s own contribution in the form of research time. The grant will support teaching, research and educational development in universal design and the UN’s sustainability goal Leave No One Behind up until 2030.
