Background
Textile applications of dye derived from Janthinobacterium lividum.
Feeding purple
Feeding Purple explores textile dyeing with Janthinobacterium lividum, a bacterium that produces violacein, a natural purple pigment. Through lab work and collaboration with Octarine Bio, the project presents two approaches: hand cultivation and industrial application. Why? Synthetic dyes pollute water and harm the environment. The project culminates in an exhibition designed to spark curiosity about collaborating with living organisms and accepting that colour fades over time as a feature, not a flaw.
