“This video looks like a comedy. Indeed, it is a tragedy. The louder the audience laughs, the sadder the story will be. Once you realize it is based on reality."
“I couldn’t get through” uses humor and exaggeration to portray the cultural contradictions and systemic challenges faced by an immigrant living abroad. The protagonist cooks Danish beef (hakket oksekød) using familiar methods from their own background while endlessly waiting on the phone to reach the immigration office, revealing the absurd reality of trying to integrate into a new culture while being held at the margins of its bureaucracy. This wait is not just a daily inconvenience, but a form of structural violence embedded in the system. The work invites viewers to laugh, only to gradually realize that what they are witnessing is the lived reality of many immigrants.
