Design for Planet: Holistic Systems course
Throughout the course and in collaboration with Upchannel and NN07, these students have been committed to advancing sustainability and efficiency in systems design. With a focus on prolonging lifespan, optimizing usage, and managing waste, they have introduced and activated core strategies for circular, service, and sharing systems.
Divided into groups with Upchannel and NN07, the students gained invaluable insights into real-world challenges. Immersed in innovative practices, they explored ways to build strategies aligned with sustainable principles.
Earlier this month they delivered their final presentations. Their innovative solutions and forward-thinking ideas left a lasting impression, showcasing their commitment to creating a more sustainable and prosperous future for all.
Here's a summary of the groups' presentations and key feedback received from the companies:
Upchannel:
- Students Mia, Maëva, Pei, and Rakel presented a service toolkit to promote extended product use.
- Students Muniza, Amalie, Ziyao, Ieva, and Bianka focused on using Upchannel's brand labeling platform to communicate a product's lifecycle and encourage user contribution.
- Students Prachi, Giulia, Julia, and Camilla explored the role of information as an agent of change, and explore its role in informing choices across different stages of a product's lifecycle.
Some feedback from Upchannel included: “You suggested a mind-blowing circular model - there is a lot of exploration to do.”, “I liked your idea using the shoes box as a communicator, providing a kind of quality message.”
NN07:
- Students Virginia, Anastasiia, Iryna, and Sara proposed a new website organization to make sustainability information more accessible and reliable, including a longevity calculator to guide users' purchasing choices.
- Students Beatriz, Rasmus, Anaïs, and Evy created a longevity codex focusing on repair services to give NN07 garments a second life, involving different networks and stakeholders.
- Students Simone, Sasha, and Lena proposed a strategy to qualitatively engage users in the design phase to discover sustainable potentials.
Congratulations to the students on their achievements and their dedication to building a better world. To learn more about their inspiring work or join their mission, reach out to Design School Kolding for further information.
