Brian Jørgensen named Lecturer of the Year 2026

Brian Jørgensen is a teaching assistant professor in Communication Design at Kolding School of Design – and, according to his students, a lecturer who gives them the confidence to take chances. He has now been named Lecturer of the Year and will receive the 2026 Teaching Award.

The serious art of making space for clowning

When a hospital clown enters a hospital room, the red nose moves into a reality shaped by treatment and worry. Around the world, research has explored the positive effects clowning can have on patients, but far less is known about the playful strategies behind those effects. New research from Kolding School of Design examines the distinctive professional practice of hospital clowning and shows how design can help make play possible in vulnerable moments in the lives of children and their families.

An interdisciplinary study has found that there is already a substantial body of research and knowledge on sustainable continence care. At the same time, the new study shows that most existing research focuses on individual parts of the care system rather than the system as a whole. As a result, valuable knowledge often remains disconnected. This points to significant untapped potential in the interplay between materials, care practices and waste management.

From Cusco to Kolding: Simona gains new perspectives on materials and accessory design

With support from Queen Margrethe’s Jubilee Travel Grant, accessory design student Simona Shakira Mamani Jensen travelled to Cusco, Peru, to deepen her knowledge of metalwork and explore the Peruvian part of her heritage. A two-week placement with a local goldsmith gave her new craft skills, but also a different sense of pace and curiosity that she is bringing back into her design practice.
