10 years of Play Design

On Friday 20 March, Kolding School of Design marked 10 years of Play Design with an event that brought together alumni, collaborators and professionals from a range of sectors.
By Marianne Baggesen Hilger

The programme featured a keynote by designer and author Cas Holman, who has long been an important source of inspiration within the field. In addition, talks and activities by alumni, practitioners and faculty offered insights into how Play Design is applied today – from cultural institutions and learning environments to organisational development and collaborative processes.

Across presentations and conversations, a clear picture emerged: Play Design is not confined to a single domain, but is increasingly used as an approach to working with complexity, fostering participation and opening up new ways of engaging people.

The event also provided an opportunity to reflect on the development of the field over the past ten years – from the establishment of the MA programme Design for Play to a growing international network of practitioners and institutions working with play as a design discipline.

At the same time, the day looked ahead. Play Design continues to evolve in practice, shaped by new collaborations, contexts and questions.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in marking this milestone and contributing to the continued development of the field.
