Kate Fletcher becomes visiting professor

Internationally recognized expert in sustainable textiles and fashion becomes visiting professor at Design School Kolding
By Charlotte Melin

Pioneer, activist, writer, nature enthusiast and professor. It is difficult to put a term on Professor Kate Fletcher.

She is considered to be an original thinker who, with her progressive insight, has influenced and redefined the way of understanding the interaction between design thinking, fashion, textiles and sustainability.

She has introduced systems thinking to the fashion world and not least pioneering key concepts such as Earth Logic, Fashion Ecologies, 'craft of use' and 'post-growth' fashion.

At Design School Kolding we're pleased to announce that throughout 2023, Kate Fletcher will be associated as a permanent visiting professor for Design School Kolding's LAB for Sustainability and Design; an affiliation which is a natural extension of the school's long-standing collaboration with the British professor.

Almost ten years ago, one of Denmark's leading researchers in sustainable fashion, Vibeke Riisberg from the Design School Kolding, sowed the seeds for a close collaboration with Kate Fletcher as part of the international research project Local Wisdom.

Since then, she has been linked to the school's research efforts within sustainability and design, and the employment of Kate Fletcher in a visiting professorship will further strengthen Design School Kolding's extensive investment in research into sustainable fashion and textiles.
