Mark of honour
In October Mark Tan will receive the Crown Prince Couple’s Stardust Award. It is the first time that a Danish fashion designer receives the award.
However, the 29-year-old fashion designer is indeed exceptional. Mark Tan is regarded as one of Denmark’s most promising fashion talents. He has been designing clothes ever since he was a child, and when he graduated with a BA degree from Design School Kolding, he founded his own brand »Mark Kenly Domino Tan« directed at women who appreciate style and quality.
According to fashion expert Cris Pedersen, Mark Tan is very different from other Danish designers:
"Mark Tan is part of a whole new generation of Danish designers who sees the world as their workplace. He designs luxury items that do not necessarily fit the Danish market but he has a distinct international outlook and displays a great deal of confidence in his clothes”, he says to DR Kultur.
Cool and classic
Mark Tan receives the Stardust Award ”for his creative approach to the form language of different materials and his cool, classic yet innovative design” and his ”focus on a sustainable production process.” ”Mark Tan is exceptionally good at designing clothes using alternative materials. He makes the material the star of the show and truly appreciates the way materials interact”, says Cris Pedersen to DR Kultur.
In 2014 Mark Tan received the DANSK Design Talent - Magasin Award. And now in 2015 he can add the Stardust Award and DKK 500,000 to his impressive award collection.
The Crown Prince Couple will present the award on 3 October at Kulturværftet in Elsinore. The show airs live on DR1 at 8 p.m.
