Students nominate two lecturers for the 2026 Teaching Award
The Teaching Award is presented by the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science and recognises educators who make an exceptional contribution to students’ learning, wellbeing and academic development.
Across the nominations, both lecturers are highlighted for their ability to combine strong academic expertise with a deep commitment to their students’ development – each in their own distinct way.
Students particularly emphasise Solveig Gubser’s structured and clearly organised teaching, which provides a strong sense of direction and security. As they put it: “Everything is so clearly planned that we always know exactly what we are doing, when and why.” At the same time, they highlight her ability to create a space where students feel confident to explore and take ownership of their work: “She points us in a direction, but she never decides for us.” Through attentive guidance and an “infectious enthusiasm”, she fosters a learning environment where students feel “seen, heard, challenged and supported”.
Brian Jørgensen is recognised for his ability to make complex knowledge “tangible, inspiring and challenging in a way that sparks ambitions you didn’t know you had”. Students describe an inclusive learning environment where everyone feels acknowledged “regardless of level or state of mind”, and where there is room for both deep academic engagement and shared reflection. His approach to teaching and feedback strengthens both students’ academic performance and their confidence – he “challenges us to be more ambitious”, while also providing “the reassurance that we are on the right track”.
What unites the two lecturers is a strong ability to create learning environments where academic rigour, wellbeing and personal development go hand in hand. The nominations reflect educators who not only share knowledge, but actively shape the way students think, work and develop as designers.
The winners of the 2026 Teaching Award will be announced by the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science in the autumn.
