Student project
Matter Made
Background
An exploration of material expressions in design
Matter Made
This project explores how materials can actively shape design by emphasizing their sensory, emotional, and symbolic qualities. Through hands-on experiments and a material-driven approach, three stools were created - respectively in cast iron, wood, and polyurethane - designed in harmony with their unique characteristics and histories. Grounded in the Material Driven Design framework, the work highlights the designer’s role as a translator for materials, fostering deeper human-object connections and a more sensuous design culture.
