From Cusco to Kolding: Simona gains new perspectives on materials and accessory design

With support from Queen Margrethe’s Jubilee Travel Grant, accessory design student Simona Shakira Mamani Jensen travelled to Cusco, Peru, to deepen her knowledge of metalwork and explore the Peruvian part of her heritage. A two-week placement with a local goldsmith gave her new craft skills, but also a different sense of pace and curiosity that she is bringing back into her design practice.

More students choose to study design in Kolding – and 152 new students are now starting the academic year

Interest in Kolding School of Design’s Bachelor’s programme is growing. This year, the number of applicants has increased by 13 per cent, and this week 80 new Bachelor’s students and 72 new Master’s students are beginning their studies at the school.

This year's designers are ready

At this year's graduation ceremonies, Kolding School of Design sent a new generation of designers into the world – equipped to investigate, collaborate and develop solutions at a time when the world's greatest challenges rarely have simple answers.

In her graduation project, Re-setting the Table, designer Rosa Floris explores how mealtimes can be made more inclusive for people with Parkinson’s – and how eating can become a shared process shaped by collaboration, adaptation and room for different bodies. Rosa holds a master’s degree in industrial design, specialising in design for play. The project was developed in collaboration with the Danish Parkinson’s Association.
