China
So the last time you heard from me, I told you that I was going to China. Well, I’m back!
We were in Shanghai, collaborating with Chinese accessory students at Tongji University. The project was about collaborating, sustainability, and communicating with production.
Our group, Julie, Fang, Baije and I, made a concept evolving around a webshop that only makes one style for purchase each month. The theme was slow fashion, and the main point was to communicate that maybe you need to think about how much clothes you buy, what they are, and if you really need them.
The course was only two weeks, so we were busy from the start. We managed though, and we even got to do the thing Julie and I had said from the beginning was important to us - having our style made at a tailor, having to make a work drawing and communicate with the people who would translate it into a real garment. This was not easy, but fun!
I think the most difficult part of this collaboration was the fact, that the Chinese students and the Danish students do not think and work the same way - at all! But it's great to learn, because some of us are probably going to work with Chinese people at some point during our career.
Before going to Shanghai, I was in Beijing for a week with some of the other girls.
It was so much fun being in Beijing, and seeing the Great wall, the Forbidden City, Mao’s mausoleum and many of the other tourist attractions, but also just diving into the small streets and hidden places of both Beijing and Shanghai, getting to know the city.
We were at markets, sky bars, hutongs (small streets where people live), museums and many other stuff. It’s not easy to put the whole experience in few words, so I’ll let the pictures speak for me.
Next time you hear from me, I’ll tell you about the project that we have just started, and that I have been looking forward to; Ecco.
See you next time!
