CAN YOU DESIGN A RELIGIOUS EXPERIENCE? by Louie McPherson

Communication designer, Louie McPherson, has created an installation that is meant to convey religious experiences and ultimately contribute to bridging the gap between believers and atheists. In the installation believers across different faiths share experiences that transcend ordinary daily experiences – what is called transcendent experiences.
In his graduation project the designer asks how it is possible to communicate this type of experience to atheists who do not believe that God exists and who find it hard to understand believers. He is trying to create the transcendent experience – where the ties to the physical world seem to dissolve – in an isolated room with the right ingredients in the form of overwhelming sensory stimuli.
